What should I do if it appears that my connection to the web is down (no internet)?
First of all if pages do not load up and you can not check your email due to 404 errors or bad connections that warn of a DNS failure and tell you to contact your network administrator first make sure that it is not the site, you may want try another site such as google or yahoo. Once that is done if you still are not connected, try doing a power cycle. This is done by removing the power cable that connects to the little black box (Power over Ethernet) that has three cables coming out of it. The black one is the power cable. Simply remove it wait for the count of 10 and reinsert it. If your connection still has not returned at this point try restarting your computer and removing the black cable from the little black box. Then if all of the above mentioned fails please contact EXtend Broadband. For EXtend Broadband contact information please check on page ??

What is a Ping and how do I do it?
A ping is a way of making sure that your equipment and our equipment are functioning, and more importantly that they are functioning with each other. Think of a ping as someone picking up a phone, dialling a number, and saying hello. If you succeed the person on the other end also says hello and a connection is established. In the case of your computer you ping our base stations and if the ping is successful you get a reply.

To send a ping you must first initiate <Command Prompt>. This can be done in one of two ways.

First click on <Start>, then <All Programs>, then <Accessories>, and then <Command Prompt>.

Or you can click <Start> then <Run>, and then type in <CMD>, click <OK> and this also starts the <Command Prompt>.

Once open type the IP that you wish to ping using the following format:

ping xxx.xx.x.xx

Your IP address may not be in the same format as the one above (also note that the x will actually be numbers) each IP is unique. Note that if all goes well it will tell you that 4 packets were sent and 4 were received (0 lost) with a 0% loss.
